INGIA

Joyce German, known artistically as INGIA, is a South Sudanese Canadian vocalist and saxophonist renowned for her unique fusion of African influences with Jazz, R&B, Neo-Soul and Gospel. A rising force in Winnipeg's music scene, she captivates audiences with dynamic performances and original compositions that are as intentional as they are soulful.

In 2023, INGIA graduated from the Desautels Faculty of Music with a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Studies, having earned the Shearer Bursary, Corus Jazz Radio Scholarships, and the Desautels Faculty of Music Endowment Fund along the way. 2025 marked a breakout year: she released her debut single "INGIA" and her EP "Genesis," five originals reflecting her journey of reconnecting with her South Sudanese roots while carving out her own artistic identity, followed most recently by her third release, "In Reflection."

That momentum carried into a packed year of live performance. INGIA took the stage at the Trinnipeg Live Mixtape, Nuit Blanche, and numerous showcases at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, including Threads of Kin and Belonging and the BPM X WAG-Qaumajuq concert series presented in partnership with the National Black Canadians Summit. She performed for the Black Canadian Experience Centre and was honoured with the Entertainment Award at the 2025 Black History Month Manitoba Gala. In 2026, she performed at the opening of a new exhibit at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and has been selected to showcase at Breakout West in Victoria, BC, her first performance outside Winnipeg under the INGIA name.

Under her stage name INGIA, also her middle name specifically named after her grandmother and now an acronym for Intention, Nurture, Gratitude, Inspiration, and Amplify, these are the guiding principles behind her music and her purpose. Through her work, she strives to nurture others, express gratitude, inspire change, and amplify African and Black diasporic music and culture.

Beyond performance, INGIA is a dedicated advocate for Black women, Indigenous women, Women of colour, and underrepresented artists. She is the founder of HERitage, an initiative creating space for Black women, Indigenous women, women of colour, and underrepresented women in the arts, which hosted its second event in March with growing recognition, including features on CTV Morning Live and Classic 107 FM. She's continuing to grow HERitage with more events planned throughout the year and is pursuing law school with the goal of working professionally as both an artist and a lawyer in the creative arts space, supporting and advocating for artists like herself from the inside out.
